Activity: De-constructing identity

Activity Description: Identity is a multi-dimensional concept. The objective of this exercise is to explore this aspect, by inviting you to write down in the boxes the kind of groups (social, gender, personal, professional, political etc.) you see yourself as being part of. Please start at the centre of the circle with the identity you most relate with, and move outwards with those you least identify with. After you finish, reflect on what you’ve written (e.g. do you think you match the characteristics socially ascribed to the groups you have noted? Do you see yourself as deviating from those characteristics? How? Why?)

You can also apply this activity in your personal/professional life to start a discussion on the multiple layers of identity, on difference and similarity among children and youth.
